INTRODUCTION TO SOUTH AFRICA GALLERY South Africa is simply the last African country to extricate itself from colonialism. Technically it gained indepence nearly a century ago but sovereignty remained in the hands of the white settlers of of the two metropolises, Holland and Britain, until Apartheid was overthrown in the 1990s. South Africa is still struggling with post colonialism though just like the rest of Africa. Rather than just suffering from rampant corruption like the rest of Africa, South Africa is suffering from "post" Apartheidism. You see it on the streets and in the businesses of Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and other area: blacks serving whites. The other story of South Africa is also similar to the rest of Africa and that is it's abundance of wildlife. This wildlife was the main reason of my visit there. The wildlife images here were almost all taken in Simon's Town, Cape Point, Hluhluwe, St. Lucia, and Kruger. |
